Signal Boost: Forgotten Ruin RPG Kickstarter!

Those mad lads behind Galaxy's Edge created Forgotten Ruin, and now there's a tabletop RPG on the table.

And yesterday there was a Q&A live on Twitch and Facebook all about this (and more).

Some of you are going to yawn at this. Don't. Using Original D&D--that's what Swords & Wizardry is a clone of--is brilliant for a newbie-friendly product like this is meant to be. Keeps it simple, keeps it short, keeps it easy for players to handle at the table- it's literally one step away from a typical boardgame.

Take a look at the backer rewards. They were smart to make it easy for backers to also buy into the novel series--the $50 tier gets you Book 1 of the series--and they shower backers with the digital reward from very early on, showing that Print Is Premium as a very subtle upsell tactic.

In short, this is a campaign whose product--which is going to happen; it hit goal within hours of launch--is perfect for the aim of building up a brand-specific audience that crosses over from reading to playing (and back again). I'm excited by this, because it means that the long-in-development Galaxy's Edge RPG is more likely to happen now and it will show that there is a viable business plan for indie fiction authors going forward.

Check this out, folks, and don't worry about not being up on the lore; they made it easy to catch up.
