My Life In Fandom: The Yamato Remakes Will Continue

Yes, Anime News Network, I know. That's why we have an archive link to the story. I'll exerpt the key bit below.

In a stage talk event for the Uchū Senkan Yamato 2205: Aratanaru Tabidachi - Kōshō -STASHA- (Space Battleship Yamato 2205: The New Voyage Part II: Stasha) film on Wednesday, the film's head writer Harutoshi Fukui said that Yamato yo Towa ni: Rebel 3199, the next project in the remakes, will have a story that will start in the year 2207, despite the film's title. He clarified that the story will not "immediately warp" to 3199.

He also noted that the character Takeshi Ageha will appear, and Tetsuya Kitano's older brother will "probably" appear as well.

Let me put some context into this.

The original third season has two arcs to it. In the remake, the now-releasing 2205 covers one of those arcs--Black Nebula Empire arc--and dealing with it in the present time. This follow-up looks to take up the other arc from that original season, which involves the Black Nebula Empire's control over a parallel Earth ostensibly in another galaxy (but isn't; it's the future).

Time travel is always a problem in storytelling, even when it is a core pillar of the narrative structure (e.g. Doctor Who), so it is no surprise that this arc has a mixed perception in the audience accordingly. Let's see how this remake goes, and if it can avoid the pitfalls that result from not being very careful with temporal fuckery, and I look foward to see how this plays out. The remakes so far have delivered, and I see no reason why this won't continue at this time.
