Pat reminds us that Wizards of the Coast is a corporations, and Corpos Gotta Corpo.
The TLDR: Bot-generated writing is on the table.
Unlike most of the naysayers in the Comments, I say that this will succeed because it already has elsewhere. Like it or not, Normies Prefer The Slop.
(Also, LOL at ANYTHING in Tabletop being a threat to The Only Game That Matters. Never gonna happen, no matter what; that ship not only sailed, it is now over the horizon.)
We already have receipts from the indie fiction world, as Jon Del Arroz reported recently.
Revealed Prefernces Are REVEALED!
All the anti-bot talk is performative bullshit; put to the test, the Normies (and those adjacent to them) prove by their deeds that they want and prefer the bot-driven slop every single time. Furthermore, all this talk of "We'll make you disclose" has no teeth; people are incentivized to lie, so they will and there is nothing you can do about it so they will get away with just doing it and not saying so- especially if they take the time to polish and edit the generated text.
Given that this is WOTC, LOLno.
The Normies still will not care. The Casuals will not care. They are Current D&D Only Andys, so they'll play it no matter what and WOTC's C-Suite knows it.
All the online people vastly underestimate how overwhelmingly dominant WOTC and D&D is in Tabletop, just as they underestimate Games Workshop and Blizzard Entertainment; everyone else does not matter at all to them. Not. At. All. That's how dominant they are in their respective niches, and it is no longer amusing to see people who ought to know better due to experience claim otherwise.
The only people that say they care are the Tourists, but they too will CONSUME when the time comes to buy like the two-faced, forked-tongue counterfeit-and-catamite cowards that they are.
What matters is the result, not how it's gotten, like it or not. WOTC may be doing this in a scummy way, but to Haight's credit he gets this; figure out what the result is, and you can discern how he'll square that with Number Goes Up.
And I think he has. WOTC will just not admit to any bot-generated anything going forward, up to and including bald-faced lying about it.
