The Culture: The Smart People Sell To Those With Money

Wizards of the Coast got the YouTubers mad.

Remember that WOTC now is under a Brand Management regime; D&D is now a Hello Kitty business model.

WOTC is focusing on people with money. They don't care about Cargo Cult cheapasses. That this looks like a boardgame is a feature for the target audience, not a defect. Normies going into Wal-Mart and Target are going to see this; Normies scrolling on Amazon will see this. They won't see any alternatives, and they won't trust those alternatives either, so those alternatives might as well not exist.

Couple this with increased costs of production, decline in discretionary spending, and a retrenchment reaction and it is clear that these complaints will go nowhere.

Network Effects are showing their power right now. The Cargo Cult of Conventional Play is going to, again, be forced to recognize that The Only Game That Matters is where their sort will retreat to--it is their Motte to the larger cult's Bailey--and that will turn out to be driven by the videogame adaptations bringing just enough people across that media divide, and they have EXPECTATIONS!

The collapse is Outside-In, folks. Not Inside-Out.

Therefore these people making their claims about this or that Indie Darling dethroning the One True King are again going to be disappointed, which is going to play into tomorrow's post.
