First, a D&D drama update. Wankers responded. It was received as expected.
This is gaslighting. The intention is to fool the predator's target into dropping its guard, making it easier for the predator to score its kill. In our terms, to dissolve one customer base and elect another- one wholly and completely different from what they replaced.
The die is cast. The Rubicon has been crossed. What was approaching has now arrived. Now all that remains to be determined are the particulars of the outcome, not the outcome itself.
I remind you that, for all the OGL drama going on, there are other parties still making their own stuff. Today its Nick Cole and the gang doing a playtest of the RPG tie-in to Cole & Anspach's Forgotten Ruin series of novels and others like it.
If you don't want to be bothered by whatever comes next, then I recommend you stick to making your own material or playing games that are not subject to these issues. All of Palladium's products are so unencumbered, as are R. Talsorian's, Classic Traveller, and many more.
What is going to come next will be more gaslighting, more legal fuckery, and a lot of backchannel action coordination. Expect to see deplatforming, hit pieces, even de-banking as this totally-not-a-fight goes on between Wankers and its former capos in the 3rd Party scene. Expect Reddit jannies to sweep it up for one side or the other, YouTube channels to go all-in for one side (anti-Wankers, I bet) or the other, and all the other Mean Girl visciousness that we usually seen SJW Death Cultists do to Wrongthinkers.
I am disinvested in all of this, due to how many people that hate me are on both sides, and my position on how this entire scene is not private.
And if Wankers manages to completely botch their attempt to pivot away from their legacy business into something far more profitable, I will say only this:
Because this is a fight between Mammon and Molech, with a few foolish but well-meaning folks mixed in.
Yes, this also means that if the following happens I will not care.
We do not need this shit. Remember that fake RPG picture? That's what we actually need, not a product line that fills bookshelves or demands computerized aids. Therefore, I don't care about how this turns out because what the RPG hobby actually is is not what either party claims it to be.
