This is all due to the insanity of "Big Number Must Go UP!" that is a legally-binding mandate in the corporate world, and is exactly as this video describes: a means of adding fake scarcity to a medium of inherent abundance.

It also shows that a lot of Cryptobros are retards that don't know the business that they're messing around in, much like the morons that ruined AAA Gaming, but because these folks have their hands on the levers they're going to turn AAA Gaming regardless of platform into the same aggressively predatory money pits that mobile trash already is- at least in the West. (We can thank the Japanese reluctance towards change for their being late to this party, if they show up at all, so their non-mobile games will be cleaner.)
