This is company policy for Games Workshop.
I've been around long enough to see GW do this several times. They are not (just) incompetent. This is deliberate practice; if insufficient outrage arose, they would have done nothing at all and carried on as they intended to gut the game down to something that would be easily translated into a digital product down the road.
GW doesn't get the benefit of the doubt. No other actor with this pattern of behavior--Wizards of the Coast, first among them--should get that either.
With all the other fuckery that's gone on and going on, the players should openly seize the game for themselves now and cut GW out of the hobby entirely.
