The Business: Trying To Survive The Colony Drop

For those that are still in the commercial sector of the hobby, succeeding is going to become a test of skill, acumen, and agility.

Listen to the cycle for these guys.

What actually funds operations is the begging on the crowdfunding sites. Paying the living costs (groceries, utilities, etc.) comes from Patreon and so on.

Keep listening. You're going to hear both Macris and Gibson talk about how the commercial incentives forced changed on the publishing and game design element of the hobby, such that the focus of commercial operations focuses on what it good for the business--for the brand--and not for the hobby. This in turn warps who is pulled through the acquisition funnel into the hobby.

This is why I say that this can't continue. It's crashed the hobby several times over the decades. Now, thanks to Outside Context factors, it's no longer viable at all (or do I need to start posting bot-generated playable content). The sooner you accept this and transition out of it, the better off you and the hobby will be- especially in the long run.
