Guess who's picking up what I'm putting down?
Pundit voices the same conclusion I came to regarding SOBS' Big Move.
He also shows that the aim of Current Edition, in minds of many like him, was delusional. The ojbective? "To make the Tabletop Adventure Game hobby become as widespread and socially acceptable as basic bitch boardgames like Monopoly or watching spectator sports, complete with mainstreaming all of the hobby cultural norms of practice.
In short, making Gamer culture into Normie culture.
Not only was that doomed to fail (anything requiring Git Gud never has a chance), what is happening now is the only possible way it could attempt to go mainstream with any hope of success. That which succeeds in the mainstream is that which conforms to Normie expectations, not defies it.
What the publishers and the hobbyists are going to face, and more of then are facing it, is that they cannot come out of the underground and survive. They, and their operations, will be degraded into gray goo slop indistinguishable from everything else Normies do for entertainment with the certainty of gravity and time every single time because this is not how you go about such a thing.
Nor is it desirable to do so. The hobby is best when the hobby gets out of the baleful eyes of the mainstream and remains a specialist hobby interest separate and distinct from the mainstream. Watch over the next few years as more people grok this, freak out, and either crash and burn or accept necessity and return to the Clubhouse.
