The Business: The Big Move Will Not Be Stopped

If you think SOBS ain't going to do its Big Move, I have bad news for you gamer.

It's well into the video, but here's what you need to know to see that the Big Move is a fait accompli: 60% of Current Edition users are Beyond-only users. They couldn't play with paper and pencil and rulebooks if they tried.

This is going to rankle some Grogs and OSRtards out there: this is SOBS catering to the Revealed Preferences of their target audience of Nomries.

Normies do not, under any circumstances, work for their entertainment. Having to do basic math, fill out character sheets, etc. that gamers take for granted has been such an effective filter for so long that hobbyists forget this fact until they encounter it first-hand.

Automating the entire process, which is what videogames do, is what the Normies want. (So do the cohorts that use them as stalking horses: Tourists and Death Cultist.) That's why SOBS did this in the first place, and if you believe SOBS won't wait for all of this to go away and then implement those changes you're fucking retarded and not tall enough for this ride.

SOBS' target audience wants the Walled Garden. They want Beyond. They want the VTT. They want the cash shop with all its FOMO and goatfucked lack of balance because they want to Pay To Win. They want it all in one place. SOBS is giving those Normies exactly what they want, and every would-be alternative loses because it doesn't make the case for superior conveience and Network Effects. Yes, Roll20, this includes you.

That's why SOBS has already won, and the Collapse is now inevitable. You, gamer, are not the target audience anymore. SOBS wants Vidya Money--Gacha Money--and that means going after Normies, who not only don't care about all things you (and I) see as detriments but actively reward and support every last piece of it.

Current Edition is not part of this hobby anymore. Stop trying to pretend otherwise.

You can return to the Clubhouse, you can follow SOBS out of Tabletop, or you can watch Conventional Play in this medium die a long overdue death. Choose now before SOBS chooses for you.
