Endymion reported on more Sorcerers By The Sea-related fallout a few days ago.
What Endymion fails to comprehend is why SOBS has no problems with abandoning Tabletop for Vidya: Network Effects.
This is, unfortunately, a very typical blindspot. You can tell because the comeback is always some form of "But I can still find players."
Not for long.
SOBS has every reason to believe that their Brand is so strong (and it is, despite all that's happened, because to this day "D&D" is synonymous with "RPG") that they can make the medium shift and find that massive uptick in monetization with concommitant increases in revenue and profitability.
Those left behind, now that they are cut out of the Network, will find it increasingly hard to get others not already familiar with Tabletop to try it at all- and even harder to stay with it if they do.
The new Network Effect will actively and severely punish those attempts, and most gamers are ill-equipped to meet that challenge due to 50 years of the prior social infrastructure being abandoned and left to rot.
That's the power of Network Effects: the power to redefine the popular definition of language.
It's the same power used by the Death Cultists at Wikipedia to induce Citogenesis such that they honestly believe they can wield Network Effects like a club to bludgeon everyone into believing that Yasuke was a samurai- a process that the original fraudster himself incited.
"Historian" Thomas Lockley that was cited by so many "official" sources on Yasuke, makes a WILD CLAIM that blames the Japanese for slavery in his book. The Japanese are furious.

They also claim that he omitted sections of his book in his Japanese version.

That's what SOBS is counting on: the ability to redefine what "RPG" means by leveraging the fact that, for most, "RPG" is synonymous with "D&D" and thus "RPG" is whatever "D&D" is. If that means being a predatory Mobile Trash app, then that is what "RPG" becomes due to the power of Network Effects incentivizing acceptance of that definition and punishing rejection of it.
"That's ridiculous!"
Really? You saw this happen in real time with "Nazi", "Racist", and "Facist". Network Effects, controlled by Death Cultist media control, got wielded as clubs to bludgeon others into compliance by quietly redefining those words to be whatever the Cult wants its enemies to dissociate from for whatever reason. You saw this happen in a similar way with "diversity" to mean "anti-White". They can, they have, and they will do this for mere reasons of commercial interest- remember that they Memory-Holed "Gen Y" in this manner.
Keep this in mind going forward. They already redefined "RPG" twice before for mere commercial reasons. They will do it again for those reasons. The Death Cultists will just slip in behind them to exploit the consequences if they can.
