The Culture: Theater Kids Are The Wimp Lo Of RPGs

The problems with Conventional Play can be reduced to two words: Theater Kids.

A friend, talking in a Discord server I'm in, shared the following exchange.

Anonymized for various reasons.

We have some real Wimp Lo problems here.

Some of the Boomers may have actually taught us wrong as a joke. Maybe.

Couple this with the Network Effect guaranteeing that most of these Theater Kids are playing Current Edition, Past Edition, or Knockoffs Thereof and you have everything you need for /vg/ threads to generate without end and thus guarantee that Neckbeardia (et. al.) will have content for years to come- just as Knights of the Dinner Table did before them..

This is where the gatekeeping comes in.

The false presumptions underlying these issues have to be exposed, denounced, and ruthlessly mogged at every opportunity- and then the superior play presented as the alternative.

"You suck. Git Gud. This is how you Git Gud. Watch me being Gud."

That's the value of both the Kayfabe and the Receipts acting in concert. The first is the jab to the face that gets your attention; the second is the hook to the jaw that you don't see coming and knocks you out.

Stick and carrot. Those that can't hack it will ship out; those that can will shape up. Ruthless mogging, followed by competent comeuppance, is the killer app to killing this false idea.

The Bros show the way. Follow that example.
