My Life In Fandom: Some BDs In English To Get Started

The other day I posted Razorfist's video on Bandes-Dessinees, Europe's native comic tradition and business, and it occurs to me that some of you might benefit from some easy-to-find examples. All of the following can be had in English and from Amazon. Some were mentioned by name in Razor's video.

  • The Cimmerian has four volumes currently available in Kindle and in hardcover. (Link goes to Kindle page; click on specific volumes for hardcover.)
  • Michael Moorcock's Elric: In order of publication they are The Ruby Throne, Stormbringer, The White Wolf, and The Dreaming City. There will be a boxed set later this year.
  • Metal Hurlant, the first volume is here.
  • The Incal. Moebius and Jodoworsky doing Space Noir. Available here in Kindle, paperback, and hardcover. The link goes to the Kindle page; click to indivudual volumes for print options.
  • Servitude. Two volumes in English. Kindle for now.
  • Undertaker. Six volumes in English, and also Kindle-only for now.
  • Dwarves. Seven volumes in English, though for some reason it's 9-15 and again Kindle-only.
  • The Lost Ages. Only one volume so far, and only in Kindle.

Some of the titles Razor mentioned--such as Durango--are only in French at this time. That's a shame, unless you're willing to learn French. (Why not? Being multi-lingual is an asset.) Also, don't forget that Tintin and Asterix are of this tradition and readily available in English; they may be for young readers, but they are still good reads.

If you have any others to share, you know what to do: drop a Comment.
