Return to what we lost in Cultural Ground Zero with Josh Stryfe Hayes' revisiting of Medievil.
The TLDR is "Janky, but endearing, adventure game in the mode of The Legend of Zelda's contemporary entries."
This is another video that anyone looking to get into videogame design should watch, and then compare this game to others like it--e.g. Breath of the Wild--to see what it did right, what it did wrong, and how you can make a game like (but better) than this as an indie videogame project.
There's a reason I post these videos: to encourage would-be indie designers that what they can do now as one or two-man projects can equal what an entire company had to have back in the day. Furthermore, this is an opportunity to make "(X), but with the janky fixed" games that many would call "spiritual successors".
And yes, you'll find plenty such examples in PC and console stores these days; it's why the real creative force is in the indie sphere these days while AAA struggles.
