While hardly a wholesale restoration of Christian morality in the United States, it would be a marked improvement over what we've been forced into as of late. Think of this as an intermediate step towards that aforementioned restoration.
No, this is not unusual. It's been around long enough to be parodied by the Japanese themselves.
There is a certain love and respect for us from them. It wouldn't hurt to live up to the better parts of it, if only for our own sakes.
