The meme that's wrecking Amazon's skinsuit prospects.
I am not exaggerating here. This is Tolkien's own words defending his work from beyond the grave, and Amazon Studios is mad about the Public Relations disaster that they've got on their hands because of this reaction to their perversion.
Sure, it's not going to stop them from streaming it, and they're going to lie about the results of the enterprise anyway, but the additional costs--financial, social, cultural, etc.--required to make that so will greatly damage the reserves on hand and force them to be even more incompetent about the follow-ups to this trashfire.
What people are realizing is that they may not be able to bleed out the enemy's finances, but they can bleed out social/cultural/political capital by the same means, which is why the shitposting and memeing is accelerating yet again. Expect even more draconian censorship, more blatantly bullshit excuses for it, and more blatant revealing of who they really are as they reveal their preference for exerting power over maintaining the pretense of acceptability.
Run out the guns, cry havoc, and let slip the memes of war- and laugh all the way to victory.
