My Life In Fandom: Toy Galaxy Returns To Talk "Gundam Wing!"

Toy Galaxy delivers again! This time, GUNDAM WING!

This video focuses in particular on how Wing was what finally allowed the Gundam franchise to break through into the United States, and break through it did. Thanks to this series G Gundam would follow along with the original series and several of the better side stories or add-ons--08th MS Team and 0083: Stardust Memory being the most notable.

And yes, this meant assimilating American audiences into the Gundam business model and that meant Gunpla. The kits brought over were already in excess in Japan, so shipping them over to American stores was simple enough and they sold well enough at the time, but it was enough. Now Gundam is wholly accepted in North American audiences, and we caught up quick to the rest of the world. (Origin aired on Toonami in recent years, with an excellent dub.)

Take note, my fellow indie strivers. There are good lessons to be had here in breaking through to that audience you know is out there, and they don't require being a multi-national corporation to make it happen these days.
