About 45 minutes from this post's posting, author Jon del Arroz will stream live discussing his win against WorldCon and the defamation of his character that they launched upon him.
This matters because it is a telling blow against the OldPub SJW Death Cultists that run genre fiction publishing, and ran it into the ground. The sheer seething cope on the File 770 post about this development, and the reactions of the Pronoun Patrol on Twitter and Facebook, are all the tells you need to know to see that (a) Jon was right and (b) that this is a real win.
Why?
No, the cash award is minimal--$4000--so that's not it. That is, quite frankly, symbolic.
It's the formal Letter of Apology that WorldCon had to issue, admitting wrong-doing and expressing both regret at the violation and expressing the desire to not repeat the error, and they had to issue that Letter of Apology as a Public Relations press release so it's on the Public Record.
In other words, they had to fess up in public, as the result of a Court Order.
They were humiliated, and by extension the entire SJW front in OldPub were humiliated, and they are not having it.
Good. It's long past time that they got a bloody nose for their bullshit, and this is just such an action. Will they stop? Oh no, of course not. They're already lying about it, first and foremost to themselves, so you know the double-down is going to follow swiftly just to salve their wounded pride and bruised egos. When they do, Jon's victory will be complete, and I'll write a follow-up post on how this give you a practical action guide going forward.
