And if you're looking to make new stuff you need to know what you're drawing from, and for a lot of superhero tropes seeing them in the form that Japan's long-running live-action serials use is going to be that blend of familiar and different that you're looking for. Even if you're writing prose, there's something here in terms of storycraft to learn (and compare-contrast with related media for sharper distinction).
