The Culture: Too Many Cannot Git Gud

This video of Classic (World of Warcraft) Hardcore (near-)death clips illustrates something we ought to openly acknowledge.

Watch about a dozen of these and you'll start seeing regulars. Part of that is due to livestreamers using Hardcore as content, but most of these repeat-appearances are genuine cases of people who are incapable of learning from their errors and improving at the game.

As the video shows, this is not a thing limited to the usual detrius you'd expect. Most of the people consistently failing at a 20+ year old MMO are the same people who never read the fucking manual, don't listen to instructions, stand in the fire during raid boss encounters and get mad at healers for not keeping them up, and--and this is key--make no effort at all to respect other players by getting better at the game (and thus respecting their time).

What's the tabletop version?

Muh 40 Years. Muh House Rules. Not getting shit squared away before game night. Not reading the fucking manual. All that stuff Neckbeardia gets paid sweet YouTube ad money to cut videos about and more is that very same thing. All of these things could be fixed by putting in the effort to be good at the game, but that requires recognizing others as not being NPCs that don't exist when he is not in the room.

This hobby does not exist for these sad sacks. They cannot meet the requirements of character necessary to be an asset; they can, and have proven repeatedly that, they are ever and always only liabilities.

If you think I'm being harsh, you'll find that these same people get culled from sports teams for the same reasons--even using the same language--because no one tolerates dead weight, not at work and not in play. You want to improve the hobby? Keep out those that either cannot or will not Git Gud.
