The Culture: The Playable Lovecraft Already Exists

All right, a follow-up on my Lovecraft take: The SCP setting is Lovecraft made playble.

You have:

  • Multiple independent actors
  • Operating in conflict
  • Laboring under a Fog of War

Without going far into the weeds you have: The SCP Foundation, The Global Occult Coalition, The Chaos Insurgency, The Serpent's Hand, Are We Cool Yet?, Martial-Carter-Dark, The Daevites, The Church of the Broken God, The Sarkic Cults, The Wandsmen, several SCPs being factions unto themselves such as The Hanged King and The Scarlet King, and every single one of these factions have internal divisions going all the way down to man-v-man conflicts.

You can absolutely do this with Total Non-Stop Braunstein, and you can even tie this in with the shenanigans that go on in typical AD&D1e or Gamma World campaigns because of course there's parallel dimensions and timey-whimy bullshit and so on.

No, I am not the first to point this out. There have been others, but being Conventional Play cultists they can't capitalize on the potential.

Such a campaign is, inherently, for all the marbles- and yes, there's an SCP article for that, and it's one of my favorites: SCP-1936, "Daleport". There was a Braunstein in a small New England town between several gods. One of them won, at great cost to everyone else, with consequences yet unknown other than that Pangloss has since shown up elsewhere.

So yes, this is very playable, and playable as a Real Game. It just needs the proper rules to handle it.
