Last night, Dunder had on Rule Of Thule to talk Bugs, Braunstein and BMD First Blood. BMD is a futuristic, wargame-infused RPG about slaughtering aliens and conquering their territory. The gameplay and mechanics mirror modern military combat, with a special emphasis on infantry.
The revival of the comprehension behind the design of the games of yesteryear is revealing that long-standing issues hobbyists had are entirely due to the adults of the day not bothering to explain a damned thing to the youths coming up after them, the epistemlogical equivalent of pulling up the ladder after they arrived.
It is because those youths, now adults in or approaching Middle Age, doing the re-creation of the work that those failed elders did not pass on that this is happening.
That regeneration is now moving forward into new designs, put forth with better technical writing, and this will only build with time due to Wizards of the Coast and the Cargo Cult of Conventional Play not only dropping the ball but failing to remember that the ball exists.
BMD is a step into the direction of going down the road this hobby should have gone decades ago.
