My Life As A Gamer: Running Through The Rifts (Pt. 1)

Showing How It's Done

RIFTS has a lot of choices for players to mull over, as I mentioned previously.

I'm seeing that it would be useful to provide a demonstration of how this would work in practice.

That will be the focus of this week's posts, using Alexandros (see last week's series) as our sample character, and highlighting specific rules and procedures (or lack thereof) as we go.

On Deciding Where To Focus

The Referee and I chat back and forth about Alexandros and his ambitions. This necessarily means moving Alexandros south to where the Vampires are. Both the Referee and I have copies of Vampire Kingdoms on hand, so I tell him that I want to take Alexandros to El Paso and establish a base of operations there. The plan is to gather intelligence on the situation in the region, form a Threat Ladder, and come up on a preliminary course of action.

I ask the Referee if Alexandros can maintain contact with Tolkeen, as he has the means, keeping him contact there--and, by extention, the city-state--in the loop and in hope of being able to call for aid or support. The Referee allows the contact, and provisionally accepts the second proposal.

It is P.A. 101. Alexandros arrives from Tolkeen at El Paso. Mixing in with the rest of the transient population of mercenaries, explorers, and similar sorts he sets up in town and gets his bearings- and that's where we stop today.
