(Following from here.)
The Elves have their lost cities. So do the Dwarves. Again, Work In Progress.
The Dwarves remember that their kind once held a great city in commmon, where all their kind would be welcome on the Celestial Isle and wherein they could receive envoys from the other peoples that gathered in the shadow of the Tower.
It was a place that showcased their deeds, celebrated their history, and possessed a complete archive of their lore as well as a fully-functional foundry and forge resting atop a vast mine of mineral wealth underneath. Every clan amongst the Dwarves had a household here, and this many hearths burned to keep the worship of their gods and ancestors alive.
It was lost, along with the rest of the Isle, ages ago. What remains now is unknown, but those Dwarves now returning hope that it yet retains the secrets of their forebearers and their keys to the Tower.
As with the Elf example, this is meant to be a location that comes into prominence in the midgame stage of the campaign. It is first a location to be seized and secured, under which a mega-dungeon rests; control of this location means control over major industrial output if the mines can be secured and reopened, which can in turn provide arms and gear of high quality to great hosts with which they can move on to take the Tower.
Once the initial area for the Dwarf Faction is settled, sorted, and secured this is the sort of forward position that the Dwarf Leader would want to target next. Seizing it means he can move up his headquarters to this location, shortening his command lines; this also means that new Dwarf character now start here instead of the starting stronghold, with the mines underneath as the dungeon to delve when bigger moves are not on the table.
Treasures to be found here can include the information needed to make race-specific items (e.g. dwarven thrower hammers), the materials needed for +3 arms/armor or better, and certain locations where it is easier to make peaceful contact with certain elemental entities.
Threats to be found here will be concealed until encountered.
