Okay, games for Halloween.
That means horror, and guys I have bad news for you: the only way that Horror works in tabletop gaming is if it's Survival Horror because the the fuckery that a videogame can pull off under the excuse of "the Horror experience" (e.g. Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem), and you know what that means.
Zombies.
Yes, you can do other monsters, but zombies (a) don't need explanations and (b) are down there with Orcs, Robots, Stormtroopers, and Nazis on the list of "things Normies have no problems genociding without explanation".
The proof is in how common zombies are in Survival Horror gaming. "They're dead and they're coming to eat you. Deal with it."
So let me run down some easy-to-get RPGs that go hard on this sort of thing. Just posting image links; click on the images to go to a sales page.
In addition, I will list a few others that don't specialize in them but can easily handle Survival Horror (i.e. zombie) scenarios:
- Call of Cthulhu (v5 or earlier; the latest edition is suspect)
- Beyond The Supernatural
- Chill
- GURPS(duh)
- TORG (Orrorsh is obvious, but Tharkold and Living Land work also)
And Jon Mollison has a video on a tabletop wargame for your consideration.
That's in addition to the plethora of zombie-specific survival horror tabletop boardgames out there.
You're spoiled for choice, so I focused on options most people (or, for RPGs, most gamers) won't have a problem picking up and going with.
