My Life As A Gamer: No, Really, Dougram Is The Basis Of BattleTech

A while back I mentioned that every BattleTech player, regardless of medium, should know Fang of the Sun Dougram.

Now I will show you why. Below is a clip from the series, and what it shows could easily go down in BattleTech- both in lore and in actual play (albeit with a lot of lucky crits).

I'm telling you that Dougram, more than anything else, is the primary source material for BattleTech. Macross and Crusher Joe have their place, but it is crystal clear that Dougram is the cornerstone around which this game is built and upon which it rests. If your games, and your campaigns, look and feel like this then you're doing it right.

Alas, there was (and still remains) no Western release. If Catalyst had the sense God gave a goat with syphilis, they'd be teaming up with their partners to get someone like Discotek or Sentai Filmworks the rights to finally make that happen and they'd give it an in-lore justification (and psuedo-canonization) similar to how that trashfire official cartoon got decanonized: by make it explicit in the lore that this is a fictional work that your characters would likely have seen or at least heard of, thanks to ComStar.

But that's too much bother.

Too bad. Dougram is a good series and deserves a wider exposure, especially to an audience that would readily embrace it.
