Narrative Warfare: We Were Warned About Social Media 20 Years Ago

My friends, I have to remind you that the best warning we had about the present world and its infohazardous condition arrived on Japanese television 20 years ago.

The environment described in Stand-Alone Complex arrived with social media.

Stand Alone Complex

While originally intended to "underscore the dilemmas and concerns that people would face if they relied too heavily on the new communications infrastructure,"[1] Stand Alone Complex (スタンド・アローン・コンプレックス Sutando Arōn Konpurekkusu?) eventually came to represent a phenomenon where unrelated, yet very similar actions of individuals create a seemingly concerted effort.

A Stand Alone Complex can be compared to the emergent copycat behavior that often occurs after incidents such as serial murders or terrorist attacks. An incident catches the public's attention and certain types of people "get on the bandwagon", so to speak. It is particularly apparent when the incident appears to be the result of well-known political or religious beliefs, but it can also occur in response to intense media attention. For example, a mere fire, no matter the number of deaths, is just a garden variety tragedy. However, if the right kind of people begin to believe it was arson, caused by deliberate action, the threat that more arsons will be committed increases dramatically.

What separates the Stand Alone Complex from normal copycat behavior is that there is no real originator of the copied action, but merely a rumor or an illusion that supposedly performed the copied action. There may be real people who are labeled as the originator, but in reality, no one started the original behavior. And in Stand Alone Complex, the facade just has to exist in the minds of the public. In other words, a potential copycat just has to believe the copied behavior happened from an originator - when it really did not. The result is an epidemic of copied behavior having a net effect of purpose. One could say that the Stand Alone Complex is mass hysteria over nothing - yet causing an overall change in social structure.

This was made real, in our circles, with--you guessed it--Gamergate.

Since this was the first time it arose outside of the control of Globohomo-friendly regimes, it freaked the Death cult out such that Gamergate is now an egregore. Said regimes, like Goda did in the series, eventually figured out how to adapt and weaponize it. It didn't take long as they already had theoretical grounding as an institution to do so, due to how they used news and entertainment to this point.

This is how we got everything from Color Revolutions to Trump Derangement Syndrome followed by the Coof Cult. All of them were attempts at adapting old media Narrative control techniques to this social media thing. They were initially successful, but lost potency fast and each successive attempt faded faster without pouring even more resources into the control over information needed to maintain that Narrative Warfare- and we know now that it's not nearly as effective as the regimes would like.

I'd be in a pit of despair if it weren't for two things: (1) the Boomers, by and large, don't get it and (2) their successors are proving to be fucking retards as a cohort that are increasingly showing their ass. These regimes have, as I see it, very few that actually get Stand-Alone Complexes and how to use them- and those people are not shot-callers. Nor are they likely to move into those positions due to how badly Death Cult convergence hampered institutional function, even for the Cult's core concern of spreading their creed.

What we see, more and more often, are some half-assed attempts to force a Stand-Alone Complex. Yet all they can accomplish is whipping up mobs against soft targets standing on ground prepared by Death Cult convergence. Get outside of that, and you're not going to suffer any real harm.

It's why the Death Cults hates and attacks alternatives that they can't destroy or subvert, and why even the apperance of WrongThinkers getting power--reference Elon's recent Twitter move--gets them crazed with religious fervor. They know that their power relies on information control--Narrative Warfare--and if they can't perfect weaponizing Stand-Alone Complexes before they become the target of the same, they're done.

Now you have the language and theory necessary to act in this sphere, to turn theory into practice. Do it.
