No Geek Gab today, so I'll point your attention to another Saturday regular I keep up with: Corridor Digital's React series.
Bollywood does not care about shamelessly aping Hollywood's big hits. No one in Los Angeles is going to send Cease & Desist letters to anyone in India, and both cinema centers know it.
What Corridor regularly asserts is that the tools to make stuff are getting cheaper and easier to use, and the acumen deeper and wider as it becomes more readily available. In short, what formerly took tens of millions to do are coming down to thousands or less- sometimes a lot less. This means that you, here and now, can make feature films that compete with the Hellmouth successfully.
The catch is that, for now, you're going to be on par with what Bollywood can do so--like Bollywood--you need to compete by fully committing to earnestly entertaining your audience. Commit to the bit. It's how Jackie Chan made himself famous, and unlike him you need not break your body to do so anymore.
And the best part? Bollywood doesn't rely on the Hellmouth for distribution.
Just as Manga exhibits the spirit of the Pulps in comic form, Bollywood exhibits the spirit of the Pulps in live-action film. We can do this people. We just need to learn how to do it and follow the path blazed by others. This is a Solved Problem.
