The Excellence of Elocution is back with a new, and lengthy, franchise retrospective of the Hitman series. Settle in for a long lunch's worth of highly opinionated ranting.
Razorfist ain't wrong. The Hitman series is, warts and all, stands up as a fine example of how to succeed (when management isn't in the way): identify what audiences love, refine that, remove what doesn't work, then make it pretty. As much as he bags on Steam, it's still the best place to get the games these days and even he admits that it's worth the risk that all-digital content entails.
And man, this series is very spectator-friendly, as those that streamed these games live recently found out. That makes it a game that is viable for audience participation, for those willing to commit to being that sort of entertainer, without needing external plugins or optional toggles like Vermintide and other games feature to do the same thing.
Another thing Razor didn't talk about is that some of the games have user-created missions that you may still be able to access online, and that makes for a fantastic way to extend the lifespan of a given title in the series while waiting for the next one. Some of them are balls-bustingly hard, so if that's still an option then avail yourself of it- and make your own to share if you care to.
