My Life In Fandom: New Gundam Trailer & Razorfist Rant

The new Gundam movie finally put out a trailer with English captions.

As I said previous Cucuruz Doan's Island is a movie-length remake of a legendary lost episode of the original series with infamously horrible animation. That means that we're revisiting the One Year War one more time, during the Earthside arc of the series, and I am certain that this is a backdoor pilot for an Origin style remake of the original series.

If so, then I welcome it. This style is fantastic, demonstrating a well-fought mastery of the CG animation tools to not only equal the classic animation of the Peak Anime generation of the '80s and '90s, but exceed them through doing what could not be done with the old tools. (Seriously, go watch Origin and Thunderbolt to see what a remake could offer and the Space Battleship Yamato remakes--2199, 2202, and now 2205--to see what a faithful remake can be.)

I look forward to seeing this, as it will take my mind off Microsoft's acquisition of Activision-Blizzard, which leads me to the Razorfist rant.

While I expect this acquisition to go through, it still requires approval by a few regulators and there's sufficient salt from the State of California and internal Blizzard parties that there may be hiccups and an outside shot at it failing to win approval. Oh, and then there's the European Union's regulators who are not necessarily going to sign off either, though this time due to lingering animosity towards Microsoft.

  1. I'm really liking the possibility of an full adaptation of the Origin Manga.

SRW is probably going to be fun for a few titles too. Seeing the return of UC0079 Gundam opens the door for bringing back OYW side stories and Thunderbolt. They can probably use Time Travel or dimension hopping to explain away inclusions of CCA/Unicorn/Narrative/Hathaway/ anything after.
