I enjoy a good curmudgeonly fan channel, so I'm sharing one I found recently: Sacred Cow Shipyards.
The hook is that this channel is presented by an alien that's frustrated and fascinated by Mankind and is cutting these videos to rant at us (most of the time), and by means of this persona offers critique of well-known (Western, for the most part) science fiction properties and tropes. The man behind the channel knows that anime exists--see the video about the Ball from Mobile Suit Gundam--but just hasn't been bothered to do videos about it much as of yet.
Listening to Alien Grandpa rant is entertaining, and for folks looking to make plausible fictional mechanical stuff it's worth heeding his criticisms; verisimlitude, even in the most operatic of Space Opera, goes a long way- just ask the Herbert (Dune) and Smith (Lensman) estates. Not quite as entertaining as Tex of the Black Pants Legion, but still a good time and more useful for writers and worldbuilders than you might expect.
And who doesn't enjoy some mood-lightening this season?
