My Life In Fandom: A Reminder That Bad Anime Exists

Mercury Falcon put this out a few days ago, and man did this go under the radar.

Oh, man. This is painful.

This is dovetails the collapse of the Bubble Ecnomony and with it the changeover from traditional cel paintint to CG-focused animation, which is why the pain is so keenly felt; it magnified the incompetence and lack of care in the productions.

Look at all that wasted potential, all that horrible half-assed horseshit, and that's before the English dubbing. If you were someone looking for remake fodder, this catalog is the place to go digging for material to readapt. If there is anything to take away from this story, it's a reminder that anime productions are no less prone to being run by people who have no business doing this sort of work even if they come from a family that does it as a business.

And for us, it's a reminder that we can't half-ass it either if we want to be regarded well down the road. Better to be forgotten than to be remebered as a screwup.

So think twice when look at that new Blu-Ray release, because if it's one of these titles then maybe you're better off just streaming it unless you're serious about maintaining a comprehensive archive.
