My Life In Fandom: No Future In Being a Corporate IP Simp

Yesterday I put out the word of a new BattleTech lore video by the Black Pants Legion. Today it's a new Warhammer 40K lore video by Luetin09.

You can probably see the common link here: the corporate owners of the properties disrespect their respective customers and fans by, at best, disdaining these fan channels doing so much to promote their property for free.

So far the lore channels are being left alone, in large part because there's nothing in a corporate sense to be gained from silencing or suborning them, but those conditions can change quickly and in a year soon to come Luetin or the BPL may find themselves getting legally Shanghaied like SODAZ, the Astartes project, etc. did recently by Games Workshop.

Making high-end content for IPs you don't control like this, regardless of why you do it or what you do with it, isn't a long-term path to anything good for you. If you want to actually enjoy the fruits of your labor, you have to roll your own material.

This is, of course, the opposite of the enemy--the Death Cult--as again noted today by Razorfist in his latest rant on the ChiComs, the Hellmouth, and why--again--Hollwyood was always Red.

The enemy cannot create. It can only subvert, mimic (badly), and destroy.

The process of Death Cult subversion is not unlike a Genestealer Cult infestation. They subvert things of use, people of use, because they cannot create their own and compete; once the Cult reaches a critical mass, the masks come off and they openly seize control and hunt down their enemies.

And the solution is not that different. The difference is what you're starving the cult of; genestealers want flesh for Tyrannids, Death Cultists want minds and souls. Keep the distance--come away from them and stay away--and they inevitably consume themselves.

Of course, they'll attempt to come at you until that happens. Man the walls, keep the gates, SINK THE DAMNED SHIPS, and pick your own cotton.

There is no future for Pop Cult idolators--corporate simps--so take those skills you learned making fun stuff for Your Favorite Thing and make your own instead. You own it, you can freely profit from it, you can build a future with it, and you don't have to worry about some pencil-headed MBA fucking it all up for you.

  1. I was already planning on skipping Suicide Squad 2 due to the involvement of pro-censorship ironic p3do James Gunn and snearing hateful junkie Blue Anon elitist Pete Davidson, in addition to feeling 1000% ripped off when I saw the first terrible entry at a drive-in. Now Cena adds this cowardly apology video. Wow. Make no mistake, if you support this stuff you are blackout drunk on that Death Cult koolaid.
