My Life As A Historian: Recommending The Time Ghost Trio

You've seen my Sabaton History posts, so you know who Indy Neidell is. He's one of the trio behind Time Ghost, and on YouTube they have three channels of note: Time Ghost History, The Great War, and World War Two.

You can count on these three channels for your survey-level documentary presentations of the World Wars and whatever they cover otherwise. (It's television, aimed at a popular audience, so deep-dive analysis of the sort you see at a war college is not on the table here.) Pay attention to whom or what they cite when quoting someone; you want to search for that and follow-up on your own for more information of a greater depth.

You should not rely on these channels alone, of course. At the very least, go hit up Osprey Publishing's site and look up all of their relevant books on whatever Indy and the gang talk about at a given time. Much like an Infogalactic or Wikipedia page, the value in Osprey's books is in the bibliography moreso than the book itself; the book, like the shows, are survey-level at best due to being for a general audience.

Recommendations for other good channels--and where to find them, if not on YouTube--are welcome in the Comments below.

  1. And while Indy is overall good - he certainly subscribes to the "Nazis were not socialists" viewpoint.

    1. Yeah, he promotes the mainstream narrative, so he's not flawless.
