Kira TV's also on the MMO beat.
It's not surprising to me that Mobile beats PC for MMO development. It's cheaper, easier to monetize successfully, easier to roll out, has far more Normies worldwide playing (due to being able to run on smartphones), and has stupidly-massive returns on investment.
What's being left out is that the PC developers have not gotten the memo on why they're fucking up their development efforts, and the Mobile trend in MMOs tells the tale. Those Mobile titles are either sequels to successful PC titles, or iterative improvements with unique branding and trade dress. In short, the Mobile scene tends to make MMOs out of IPs that have proven themselves, either officially and directly or unofficially as "spiritual successors".
In other words, the Mobile market sees MMOs as Apex Products.
The PC scene isn't going to change for the better until this is acknowledged in their offices also, and product development changes accordingly.
I won't reiterate my model for how to build up to your MMO; I just did the other day, so scroll back a few to find it. I am just flabberghasted that more developers and publishers haven't figured this out by now, when I had no problem sussing this out from my wheelchair between doctor's appointments. I guess I'm going to have to put together a more formal series describing by example how to make that process work.
