Narrative Warfare: If You See Folks Like This, They Can Be Reached

From back in May, and Chris Gore is a Gen X MTV alum with--by now--decades in the business that is the Hellmouth, so he's not talking out of his ass.

What he does not talk about is why, thought he brushes against it when he remarked about the last great era of clearly American movie-making, and that thing is Globohomo and that means the Death Cult.

I have no reason to think ill of Chris Gore. I have no reason to doubt that what he said here is either insincere or incorrect; it is merely incomplete in painting the picture, as he--like most Hellmouth veterans of a dissenting perspective--fails to take the full picture in, and indeed is still unwilling to do so even if the evidence were laid out before him and carefully walked through in exhaustive detail. He is, put plainly, not ready for that revealation yet.

But because he dislikes how things are, he can be engaged to a limited degree and within those limits useful dialog can be had, even useful collaborations. Because he's been on the inside for so long, I don't take his as a Pop Cultist; he's just been acculturated to a false narrative of how things he likes came to be, and if he's not ready for the answers then giving him the true story ain't going to be received well at all.

Getting him to accept the reality of this situation is not easy. He was educated wrong, has invested emotionally into the narratives therein, and that investment must be paid off before he will be ready to accept that reality; it's not different than paying off the debts of a man you want to recruit in order to make it easy for him to accept the offer, and I suggest therefore that pursuing such actions take this form. Find the emotional investment, relieve it, and then they will become open to what you want to tell them. From there you can begin to explain how things are--to give them the real story--and show them how they got lied to.

And then you can suggest what they can do about it that actually works, things they can do right now, to get started on helping solve the problem.
