My Life In Fandom: Getter Robo Arc Countdown Is On

It's almost July, so we can begin the countdown to the premiere of another new anime series in Japan. If you need a reminder, here you go.

Soon we'll see how well the team producing this television series adaptation of Ken Ishikawa's last, unfinished, work did in adapting what he had and extrapolating from there given what notes survived.

The trailers to date have delivered on showing the classic Super Robot heroism side of it while only hinting at the Cosmic Horror that is Getter Robo. Armageddon didn't shy away from the horror, so I don't think Arc will either. A Getter Robo story needs that to make the pilots' struggle to reach and maintain the three-part harmony required to be most effective possible.

This will be the second mecha series to air this year, following the adaptation of the light novel series of the same name: 86.

And it will be another well-known IP to return to Japanese airwaves. I already mentioned Space Battleship Yamato yesterday, but Code Geass and Neon Genesis Evangelion also had or will have releases this year.

It took 20 years, but finally the anime industry achieved mass-competency with its new tools and now the good animation we barely saw between 2000-2010 is increasingly commonplace as acumen spread, tools improved, and the businesses reorganized.

So yes, I am looking forward to Arc just as I look forward to 2205. While the industry has its issues, they are still committed to solid entertainment so I'm willing to give them a shot while I'll reflexively skip Hellmouth trash no matter how solid the credentials.
