My Life In Fandom: The Shadowcast Talks "Gangland's Doom"

Razorfist released a new episode of The Shadowcast the other day. Well worth the time.

Razorfist points out something that has been missed in the discussion of the Pulps: The Shadow brought back single-character magazine publishing single-handedly.

Up to this point, most magazines were anthologies and had been for a few decades, a tradition carried on today with Japan's manga magazine anthologies such as Shounen Jump. Walter B. Gibson's debut story--"The Living Shadow"--was such a hit that it revived an abandoned format that the anthology magazines replaced, a fact driven in part due to the radio presence of the character. This makes Gibson's accomplishments even more spectacular than it had been heretofore, and he won't be matched anytime soon.

This and more awaits you in this episode of the podcast. Queue it up and enjoy. You may want to take notes to follow-up afterwords.

The podcast has a blog, which you can find here.
