Narrative Warfare: Cute Anime Girls Are The Warning, Not The Problem

Hololive debuted a quintet of English-language girls recently, and they instantly became hits in the Virtual Tuber space with low audiences that make independents like Project Melody look terrible by comparison. When you have a company that has mastered how to be cute and wholesome for entertainment, it's not surprising that success is had. It's very hard to resist girls being like this:

Yes, that's already a meme on the level of Korone (the Japanese dog girl behind all those DOOM clips) squeeing over demon-killing.

And because these girls, each in their own way, deliver on that combination of wholesomeness and approachability you get some nasty Cute Aggression kickback.

So far I haven't seen anything but welcomes from the independents that dominate Twitch such as Melody, Momo, Ironmouse, or Silvervale. Rather, as with those who hated on Melody, it's those women who trade on their real-life looks (such as Venti) that are getting their knives out and going after Hololive. I'd be concerned about one or more being bullied out of the scene, but after that happened to another Hololive performer the company will not have it.

And Venti will deserve it. She's flipping her shit over men whose money she thinks should be going to her instead going to superior competition.

That's what this Cute Aggression is about; a hard-aging e-thot seeing someone else come up that actually delivers what the men she strings along want better than her, and due to being virtual can do for for decades on end without worry.

And what do those men want? Let me show you.

Lots of men would kill for a headpat from a wholesome girl, nevermind a hug.

The sad truth of VTubers being successful is that it comes from the fact that a parasocial pseudo-relationship with a virtual girl is the only source of authentic affection a lot of men have in their lives. It's almost like it is in that Hollywood film, Her, with the guy only getting any love and affection from a virtual girl voice.

If Venti wanted to actually make a valid argument, that's the angle she needs to follow.

But that's not good for thottery, because thottery needs simperture (Yes, this is a neologism, defined as "The practice of holding low-status men in thrall as paypigs to monetize their unfulfilled needs without satisfying them."), and rather than surrender thottery to solve the problem she played this stupid pedo angle.

And now that the English girls have Superchats enabled, you can see just how severe the hunger for that affection is by their donations. $100 is not uncommon. That is not pocket change for most men, and it is this spending that concerns me. Yes, the girls do insist that you shouldn't hurt yourself to donate to them, but when you're caught up in that state rational thought isn't a thing; if anything, professionals should lurk in those streams and reach out to those men to see if they're okay.

Once these girls get Channel Memberships, and paid member benefits become a thing, we're going to see more expressions of it in action.

We live in a severely dysfunctional society, and not just in the United States. Hololive began in Japan and is still headquartered there; this is a global issue.

While I don't have a problem with VTubers or Hololive, I do think that the audience ferverence behind female VTubers who play this roll should be alarming for everyone that this is a severe problem that needs to be addressed and soon before things get too far gone to be fixed.

In short, Cute Anime Girls are the canary in the coal mine; they are not the problem, but rather the alarm that we have one.

This will require a hard reevaluation of the roles of men and women. In particular the issue of intimacy with reference to affection.
The current bane pernicious in its effects is the withholding of female affection unless the guy is less than a chad alpha multitrillionaire.
Men particularly deltas to sigma will need to be more assertive about female affection and temind them they're as worthy as the chads.

  2. As an old married guy, I didn't even know this stuff was a thing. I can see the attraction though. If you are alone, this psuedo relationship stuff can seem like an easy answer.
