Midnight's Edge on Fake Trek: "Discovery" is a Dumpster Fire

To no one's surprise, Star Trek: Discovery is a dumpster fire of suck, blow, and fail. The folks at Midnight's Edge held a roundtable discussion on this matter, and you can feel the pain of the stupidity throughout the podcast. Listen to this instead of watching the NFL tonight.

The divide between the audience opinion on STD and the "critics" is also not a surprise. Critics in the Fake Media are Fake Journalists that produce Fake (Entertainment) News to serve the Narrative over the people. The anticipated reactions by CBS, Paramount, and other stakeholders are also not surprises. At this point, it's down to when this crash hits- not if it does. I join the chorus on how to handle this in the moment: shit-can this Fake Trek in favor of The Orville. Seth's take isn't perfect, but it is faithful, and that's why his show is Real Trek.

We lost Axanar for STD. Never forget. Here, watch "Prelude" again and compare to what STD delivered. RIP Richard Hatch.

Nevermind the legal issues. We can see clearly why CBS/Paramount went after Axanar: it makes STD look like the clown collage crapfest that it is- on a fraction of the budget!

  1. ya kidding me? Axnar was low budget? No way. It's looks like an official studio Star trek from Paramount/CBS.
I can see why they killed it. Jealousy is what killed Anaxar because a group of fans did Trek far better than the officially sanction producers and writers.
    What a wasted opportunity

    1. Compared to what CBS/Paramount threw at STD? Hell yes it is low-budget. They had, AT MOST, a million and change; most fan projects are much less and it shows.

It's the combination of unprecedented financing, tools, and skills to use them (before and behind the scenes) that made Axanar such a threat.

And yes, the team behind Axanar did use some of the funds to build a studio others could use as a means of raising capital for follow-ups. They had a plan, and I see why (legally) they screwed the pooch.

That said, CCBS/Paramount should've responded by showing up and saying "We see this is going places; if you cut us in, we make you legal and give you access to our distribution." and made the cut required just enough to be felt- a sting, no more.

But now, we got their ruination in court. Legal? Yes. The smartest option? Not by a long shot; making Axanar an offer they couldn't refuse was smarter, but meatheads run the show at CBS/Paramount. Stupid, and incompetent, meatheads.

    2. Definitely. Why the powers that be didn't just bring the fan film into the fold and make it legit (I mean it's FREE LABOR) shows just how much ego reigns in hollywood.

Which stinks because ST:Discovery could have been an interesting "american idol" type show where we watch various fan productions compete to be made legit or something.

Ugh, a waste on so many levels.

    3. Thanks Bradford and Nathan.
So I'm sorta right jealousy.astounding that the execs would be so stupid as to squander an opportunity because of this not from my studio mindset.
Lemme ask this question in all seriousness:is the rampant drug and alcohol abuse impairing their cognitive abilities? Because as a total outsider I'd pretty much propose what Bradford posted: cut us in and we'll legitimize you. Really a no brainer.
Nate I like an American idol/shark tank idea. I bet we'd discover really astonishing

  2. Pride always goes before the fall, and See-BS and Hollyweird have pride -- in spades. Pity they don't have the talent and smarts to back it up -- then, they're SJWs.
